So far, I have been fortunate healthwise, but as I age everything admittedly is getting more difficult. I am just about a year younger that President Trump. Like him, I get good medical care and my health is good for my age. But there are some significant difference between Trump and myself in terms of health.
I usually get about 7-9 hours of sleep a night with the help of a CPAP machine. Evidence, mostly based on the time of Trump’s incessant tweets, indicates that Trump gets much less sleep than that most nights. In fact, many have suggested that Trump suffers from insomnia. Lack of sufficient sleep is correlated with many serious physical and mental health problems, as well as doziness and inattention during the day.
What do you do when you can’t sleep? I usually get up and read for a couple of hours until I get tired again. We already know that Trump tweets frequently during his sleepless early morning hours, often making important U.S. policy pronouncements.
When I am awake past my normal bedtime (usually around 11:00 - 11:30 pm), I am often tempted to have a late night snack, but I resist because I know late night snacking is one of the fasted ways to gain weight. And like President Trump, who is borderline obese, I don’t need to gain weight. Trump’s latest physical indicates that he gained 14 pounds during the last year. That probably isn’t 14 pounds of muscle. I wonder, could that large weight gain be a result of insomnia induced late night snacking?
When I stay up too late, the next day I am typically tired and given to nodding off and napping. It has been repeatedly observed that Trump nods off during daytime meetings. Fortunately for you, I don’t have to make any decisions that might affect our nation’s economic or national security.
Like President Trump, my blood pressure is usually within the normal range but, unlike Trump, I don’t take any prescription medications. Trump takes two prescription medications to address his history of high cholesterol. He reportedly still loves those Big Macs and fries. He also regularly overdoses on aspirin, saying that he doesn’t “want thick blood pouring through my heart”.
Unlike President Trump, I exercise regularly. I ride my bike, walk, do Tai Chi (yes, that’s exercise), and do some upper body strength exercises. I don’t get any exercise from playing golf (since I don’t play golf), but neither does Trump. Being driven around in a golf cart isn’t exercise.
Trump’s doctor, Sean Barbabella, says that Trump is healthy. That is the same doctor who has overseen Trump’s two advanced medical scans (CT and/or MRI) within the last six months. When I go to my doctor for my annual physical, I subsequently never have had either a CT or MRI scan. Typically, those types of advanced scans are only ordered if there is a suspicion of a possible health issue.
So, do you think that the public is being fully informed regarding Trump’s current health status? Most Americans don’t. I don’t either. And there is good reason to be suspicious. Many prior administrations have not been forthright about the current President’s health, most recently the Biden administration.
So, if I have any health conditions which would negatively affect national security or our economy, I’ll let you know. But don’t expect the same from Trump.
