Antrim County Clerk Victoria Bishop may be in deep legal trouble for violating election and tax laws
In November 2024, Victoria Bishop was elected Antrim County Clerk after a campaign where her motto was “Restore Election Integrity to Antrim County”. There is growing evidence that the voters of Antrim County got the opposite of what they were promised.
Victoria Bishop is alleged to have violated the Michigan Campaign Finance Act. As the County Clerk, she is the highest-level official in the County responsible for the administration of elections.
Bishop was the Treasurer of her “Committee to Elect Victoria Bishop”. She filed a number of campaign finance reports handwritten by her. In those reports, she stated that she received two $5,000 loans from her husband to the campaign (along with additional in-kind donations).
On December 9, 2024 (just a few weeks after his wife’s election), her husband, Randy Bishop, filed for bankruptcy claiming he had no money and was not owed any money on any loans. Under oath, Randy Bishop maintained that his wife’s campaign finance reports were inaccurate.
On May 13, 2025, Victoria Bishop failed to appear in bankruptcy court resulting in the court issuing an order holding her in contempt.
On July 15, 2025 she finally did appear in bankruptcy court. At the hearing she retracted her campaign finance filings and claimed that she was the source of the loans to her campaign, not her husband. She was unable to provide any documentation whatsoever to prove the source of funds used in her campaign. There were no receipts, no checks, no credit card statements or bank withdrawals or deposits. Instead, she claimed the contributions were all made in cash.
Under the Michigan Campaign Finance Act, all contributions over $20 must be by check, credit card or debit card.
During the hearing both Randy and Victoria Bishop stated that it had been many years since either of them had filed any tax returns despite her ownership of Michigan Broadcasters LLC which holds the FCC license for WCHY radio on which Mr. Bishop has a regular week day program.
Victoria Bishop was unable to come up with a coherent explanation of where the money came from.
There is also evidence that Victoria Bishop failed to maintain the required records when she was the Treasurer of her husband’s past failed attempts at elected office.
